Happy October 1st everybody!!

Today I want to share with you something taught to me that was so important to the process of my understanding of salvation. Through the studying of “Romans Road” I was able to dive deep into the love of Jesus. As a result I was able to get to know Jesus as my savior.

Romans Road goes through the book of Romans in a way to help connect the pieces of:

  1. Why we need to be saved
  2. What we can receive from being saved
  3. God’s love for us
  4. How to accept Jesus as your savior
  5. The assurance of our salvation through Christ

Question: Why do we need to be saved?

Answer: Every person is a sinner

Romans 3:23 says, “for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” All people have fallen short, no matter how great of a person they are. As humans we naturally have a sinful nature, it is a sickness or disease that all people are born with. Before Jesus came into this world to die for our sins there was no hope for humans to treat or cure this disease. Once Jesus died that so underserving death on the cross for us we were set free from the chains of our disease!  No one can work their way to Heaven. Jesus is the only way.

Question: What do we receive from being saved? What does it really mean?

Answer: When we are saved we receive forgiveness of our sins, a personal relationship with God, and eternal life in Heaven as a free gift

Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” We are able to receive a free gift of salvation and eternal life in Heaven with God. We cannot do anything on our own to achieve this eternal life. God has given this to us, though he knows we are sinners, we are broken, He still wants to live with us in Heaven forever. How AMAZING is that! Though we deserved death, we gained the exact opposite. Through the hope of eternal life, through Jesus, we also gain this amazing freedom from fear and shame!

Question: Why did God choose to save us?

Answer: God loves us even though we sin

Romans 5:8 says, “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” This was one of the most important verses to me in understanding salvation. Why would the creator of the universe, a perfect, holy, and powerful being want to save me and want to save you? Well God is all powerful, all holy, and almighty but God is love. He is a loving being. This love is immeasurably more than the love we experience each day on earth. Though we sin against Him and though He knows we will continue to mess up, He loves us so much to offer salvation, as though we have never sinned. The bible even says He has new mercy for us every single morning.

Question: What is being saved? How do you really do it?

Answer: Being saved is accepting Jesus as our one an only savior and Lord

Romans 10:9-10 says, “if you confess with your mouth, that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” To be saved you must truly believe with your whole heart that God sent Jesus down to this earth to die on the cross for our sins and be raised from the dead by God for our salvation. It is more than just being able to say it out loud. God knows what is in your heart, when you believe this you are saved, you have the Holy Spirit inside of you and you are promised eternal life in Heaven with God.

Question: How am I sure of my salvation?

Answer: Our assurance of salvation is in Jesus

Romans 10:13 says, “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Unfortunately once you are saved you don’t receive a physical receipt or label. Being saved is within your heart. To know your are saved is to know Jesus and His promise of your salvation as long as you believe. Doubts may come and go, but once you are saved you are saved forever. Once you are saved your name is written in the down in the book of life where it will remain forever. The bible even says that when one single person gives their heart to the Lord there is a celebration in Heaven! How awesome is that!!

That is Romans Road, the road into salvation. If you are saved I encourage you to take time today to remember what it was like to receive that salvation. Ask God to fuel that fire in your soul that you had right after you were saved! If you are not saved, I encourage you to read this with an open heart and open mind. If you are reading this, there is a reason. God may be calling out to you, waiting to welcome you as His daughter or son.
