I am sure that many of you, if not all of you have heard about the tragedy that went on in Las Vegas. At least 58 dead and over 500 injured in the Las Vegas massacre. I am here writing this today heartbroken and trying to provide you with even a glimmer of motivation and hope. Unfortunately, when horrible events like this take place it is easy for people to blame God, it is easy for people to say “How could there be a God, if this is going on?” We must understand that satan is as real as God and evil is as real as love. Though they are all very real, God and love triumph over all evil. Though there will be many times when satan wins the battle, we must remember that God has already won the war.
Jesus says, “I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble, but take heart I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
Through these events, understandably, many will turn to hate and fear. They will completely turn their heads and hope away from God. That is what the enemy wants us to do. His goal is to separate us from anything good that God has provided for us including: love, hope, and unity. Unfortunately, when attacks happen of any level and of any circumstance, we don’t have any control over undo-ing it, but we do have control over how we respond to it. If we respond with hatred towards eachother and each others views upon what should’ve happened and what should happen next, we are only giving in to the enemies plan. By doing so we are creating more hate on this Earth. The people who do these hurtful things, most likely experienced the hate in the world causing even more hate in their own hearts. Each person on Earth was created by God. When Jesus died on the cross He was dying for every single person on Earth at the time and every single person to come. Hate has created monsters, but we have hope…
“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8.” Our reaction should only be love, hope and unity. Obviously this world needs God in many places and in many hearts. In the bible it says that God is love. So by loving each other you are helping to spread God’s truth, and in turn spread hope. Love the people that don’t deserve it, take a leap of faith in befriending someone who has a past or a reputation. Be unnecessarily nice to all people. We did not deserve God’s love but he freely gave it to us. It is on our hearts now to give love and hope freely to others.
Lastly we must continually remind ourselves that “our battle here on Earth is not against flesh and blood…” Ephesians 6:12
Prayer for Las Vegas and our world:
Lord, we just want to reach out and call out to you today to lift these people up who have lost their lives and heal the people who are injured physically and emotionally. Help us to remember that you have over come the world, we do not need to fear when we have you. For you have told us that no mere mortal can harm us when we have God on our side. Dig deep into our hearts to help us to do more than just judge the man who caused the attack, help us to do more than just watch the news in fear. Help us to stand up in love, hope and unity for this world. Help us to remember that there is more than just living and dying, and that there is an ultimate hope and salvation through Jesus Christ. We love you so much.
In Jesus’s name Amen.
