So I have some really good news to share… are you ready?… okay here it goes…
Your past choices don’t define you!
Its so ironic how much we as humans hold on to the past, whether good or bad moments. We hang on to the past so tightly that we ignore the present moment. Proverbs 4:25 says, “Focus your eyes straight ahead; keep your gaze on what is in front of you.” Do not look back or veer left or right. We stop enjoying the little things that are happening right before our eyes just because we can’t let go of a stupid mistake we once made. If we miss to many of those present moments, we will be looking back on our lives wondering where the time went and regretting how much wasted time and energy went into that one mistake.
God does not see you as your past, He only sees who you are now and that is someone who He believes was worth dying for. “But Samuel answered the people, “Don’t be afraid. Yes, you’ve done all this evil; just don’t turn back from following the LORD. Serve the LORD with all your heart.” 1 Samuel 12:20. No matter what the world has labeled you as or what you labeled yourself as it’s wrong. No one is ever too far gone. Fortunately we have the God of second chances.
This world is a hurting place. It will continue to take cheap shots to try to tear people down. But God says no to that pain and fear, God lifts you up. No matter what you have done in the past, if you accept Jesus as your Savior He will joyfully call you His child. We have an opportunity to become children of the almighty God… how exciting is that?! “Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son or daughter, and if you are his child, then you are also an heir through God.” Galatians 4:7.
So, instead of choosing to be enslaved by your past, choose freedom. Choose to live as a forgiven person. Choose to make something of this life by actually living in the present. “Christ has set us free for freedom. Therefore, stand firm and don’t submit to the bondage of slavery again.” Galatians 5:1. We are set free to live free so live as the person God made you to be. Do not limit yourself to the labels the world has thrown upon you. Your identity is not in sin, it is in salvation, it is in Jesus Christ.
“I call heaven and earth as my witnesses against you right now: I have set life and death, blessing and curse before you. Now choose life- so that you will live.” Deuteronomy 30:19. The cross is before you and the world is behind you so, choose life.
Finally, make a choice.. to forgive not only others but yourself, make a choice to follow your dreams and not limit yourself from the gifts God has given you, make a choice to accept what you cannot change, make a choice to be joyful through rough circumstances and make a choice to pick up that cross and follow Jesus.
