Devotional Monday: Hope for Today, Tomorrow and Forever

Hey everyone! I have decided to start making a Devotional Monday! 🙂

All this means is that I’m going to pick a subject and a couple of verses to discuss every Monday. I’ll make sure to give a little bit of information about the verse and hopefully provide you with enough motivation and inspiration to carry those verses and words out into actions throughout the week.

Hope for today, tomorrow and forever…

Therefore we do not give up. Even though our outer person is being destroyed, our inner person is being renewed day by day. For our momentary light affliction is producing for us an absolutely incomparable eternal weight of glory. So we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)

Today it is so easy to get caught up in this world, in our daily routine, in our careers, our finances, and our responsibilities. Though these expectations can weigh us down to the ground, they only exist on the outside. Our inner person, our spiritual side, our supernatural power side through the Holy Spirit.. those do not wear down with our physical bodies and minds. When you focus on the weight of the world, focus on the weightlessness of Heaven, and you will be able to really feel God’s hope for your eternity. If we were to actually walk through each day holding the hope of Heaven up high, we wouldn’t notice Satan throwing worldly expectations at us.

In verse 17…

We see that it is saying the pain of this world is nothing compared to the glory of Heaven. Our struggles shouldn’t turn us away from our faith. Our suffering does have a purpose. We shouldn’t let the pain, hurt, and brokenness of the world get into our heads when we have a future full of what is “unseen.”

It may sound weird being told to focus on the unseen. It is actually one of the most important things we can do in order to live each day with hope for today, tomorrow and forever. Let me explain…things that are seen are of this world, which means they are temporary. For example, money is something seen and so temporary. In the end money will not exist. Yet, so often we worship money more than we worship God. If we focus our time and energy on temporary items, we lose in the end… it’s just pointless. When we focus on the eternal items, the things that are unseen, our lives will change, our hearts will change and our hope will change.

What is unseen?

The fruits of the spirit are unseen. The fruits of the spirit are accessed through the Holy Spirit. These include: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Though we can see these things acted out, they are unseen. When we put our focus in these items we will be able to smile through hard times. With this focus we will be able to walk free from earthly weight, every day. Our ultimate hope is in Heaven; focus on the unseen.
