How do people know if you’re a follower of Jesus?
I have been thinking about this question a lot lately. I feel like I say I am a follower of Jesus quite a bit; and I share with you guys the word of God pretty often. But do I truly put the words I share into action on a daily basis? The words of the Bible are living and breathing, they are meant to be used in a practical way. Though I know this, I struggle with it and I am sure I am not alone in this. So I want to challenge you and myself with this question, do you think that if you weren’t to say you were a follower of Jesus, people would know just from the way that you live your life?
As the saying goes… “it’s easier said than done.” Unfortunately that saying applies to many Christian’s lives, including myself.
How can people know you’re a follower of Jesus without telling them?
This verse, below, has been hanging over me and it has guided me in this past week to thinking about the way I live my life in a deeper way. It has lead me to ask questions like: Am I the same person writing these blogs when I’m not working? Am I the same person in and out of bible study or church? Do I genuinely love other people? Is it obvious that I put God first in my life and in my relationships?
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:35)
That’s it, that’s the answer… people will know that you are a follower of Jesus and people will know that you are different by your love for others. He doesn’t say by how many bible verses are hanging in our houses, He doesn’t say by how many times we go to church, He doesn’t say by proclaiming we’re followers of Jesus in our Instagram bios. He says people will know that we are His disciples when we love them.
So, it is my goal to make sure that I am acting out the love I try to give on this blog, in my everyday life. I want people to know I am a follower of Jesus and that I am a child of God through my actions and my life before they even hear about my blog, or see me attend church. My hope is that my life and my love for others will proclaim Jesus across all of the earth. I want to love all people I meet to Jesus.
God is love, give people love and you give people God.
Short and simple today, I just wanted to share what was on my heart in hope of inspiring some of you to take action for Jesus alongside of me. Below is a prayer that I would love for you all to pray with me. Let’s all pick up the cross and follow Jesus!
Lord, I come before you to beg for your wisdom. You are all-knowing. Your knowledge is indescribable. You take that knowledge and you make it practical, making you also all-wise. Give me the wisdom to take the knowledge of John 13:35 that you have given us and live it out. Present me with opportunities to glorify you by my actions and by my love. Help me to understand the importance of living out your word each and everyday. I love you! I am thankful I am able to pray this prayer before you.
In Jesus’ saving name, Amen.
