Reading the Bible Every day
Diving into the Bible on a daily basis is essential to building up our relationship with God along with learning and understanding our roles as followers of Jesus. Reading the Bible every day can be difficult. Just like anything else, it takes consistency and discipline to read the bible or a devotional every day, but trust me guys it is worth it! It will completely change your relationship with God in such an awesome way.
Why is Reading Scripture so Important?
Reading scripture is one of the only ways to understand who our God really is. The bible is God-breathed. Though people wrote the words, they were all overcome by the Holy Spirit. So, these words that you are reading are literally God’s words. Understanding the character of God is crucial! God has many reputations and many people think of Him in different ways, but until you read about His divine nature, perfect love and His merciful character yourself it will be difficult to understand and develop a true relationship with him. Reading the Bible also allows us to both understand and share the gospel. Sharing and proclaiming the gospel is our goal as followers of Christ.
What is the Best Way to Read the Bible?
To be honest, there is no wrong way to read the Bible. The main thing to understand is that the Bible is not a novel. It is not necessarily a book to be read front to back. The Bible is a guidebook that can be read completely out of order. It is also important to note that when reading the bible quantity is not as important as quality. Meaning that reading, studying and using one verse to apply to your life and your relationship with God is much greater than skimming through a whole book of the Bible just to read it or check it off. The words are alive and breathing, they can be used to encourage, to teach, to convict, to provide and to heal.
“I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.
11 I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.” (Psalms 119:10-11)
It is important to try to comprehend and dive into each verse we are reading. That will allow us to hold the words in our hearts during both times of testing, times of struggle and times when we must share the word with others. True engagement with each verse should be our aim.
How to Dive into God’s Word on a Daily Basis
To be honest I used to struggle, a lot, with reading the Bible on daily basis. The biggest help and change I made was designating a specific time for reading the Bible. I plan out exactly what time every day to do it and make sure that I move other things around if I have to. Spending time with God should be the first priority. Over time, it has become a habit. If I don’t read the Bible I feel like I’m forgetting something, or something is just missing throughout my day. I choose to do it in the morning before I do anything else, just so I can start my day off on the right foot. It also gives me the ability to practice and apply what I learned that morning during the rest of the day.
- Prioritize it
- Make it personal and engage
- Don’t overload yourself
- Be serious about it
- Make sure your intention is to develop a deeper relationship with God, not just something to check off of your to-do list
- Consistency is key
Main point: To be able to read the Bible joyfully every day we must understand the depth of it. Those words are breathing! They are words that will provide direction, hope, and strength. It is only through scripture that we can really know who God is and what He has done for us. Reading the Bible daily can and will change you from the inside out!
